The Lexus SC series of cars are high styled personal luxury coupes designed for super comfort exclusively sold by the Lexus Division of the Toyota Motor Corporation. The outstanding features of the Lexus SC model are a superb frontal engine and rear wheel driving model ideal for the rich and elegant class. The design is such that it can seat up to four persons (though very tightly in the back). In competition with other luxury coupes like Acura and Mercedes-Benz, Toyota decided to launch a medium sized Lexus coupe. In the beginning the Toyota Soarer served as the new platform for the Lexus coupe, very much similar to the Lexus ES 250. But the Toyota Soarer was precisely boxy in appearance and quite an old model. And as the luxury coupe was all set to capture the potential American market; the dream project was taken over by Calty Design Research center, in the year 1990, originally based in California. Thus the SC design came into existence. This whole new revolutionized approach with curvy designs was termed as distinct and classy by the critics. SC was instrumental in influencing the development of automobile design structures that followed suit. Lexus SC 400 The very first model SC was inaugurated in 1991 as the V-8 power-driven SC 400. In U.S. The U.S. saw the SC 400 in 1992. The engine was similar to the LS 400 model. But the research work cost a whopping $400,000,000. The Lexus SC 400 was awarded the Motor Trend Import Car of the Year in 1992. It was also featured in the 10 Best List of Car and Driver magazine. As the design was superior and very much advanced in technology, the first generation Lexus SC held production ground till the year 2000, literally 9 years of lifespan. This was a record production cycle in comparison to the 1990's models, which were constantly redesigned every four to five years to stay in touch with the latest styling facade in automotive designs. Trifling changes in the exterior portions were made, like new taillights, a new front grille and a new spoiler design during the SC's long production tenure. Lexus SC 400 and Lexus SC 300 The genuine engines for the SC 300 and SC 400 were valued at 225 hp for the GE powered Lexus coupes. But in 1996, the Lexus SC 400's UZ-FE engine design structure was modified to 260 hp from the original 250 hp. Both the models, SC 400 and SC 300 were propped up to meet the latest demands in the market. Tests on the newer versions showed acceleration in speed as to 60 miles per hour in seconds flat for the SC 400, likewise an increase by 60 miles per hour in almost 8 seconds for the SC 300 model. The older 92 model of the SC 400 had an acceleration speed of 6.9 seconds, partially longer than the new version. The SC 400 has amazing speed power rack and restrained steering. It's very comfortable and easily manageable with intricate interior detailing and designs. No plastic trims or imitation wood is used; only the best real wood trim and chrome highlights are to be seen. If you desire for a convertible styled version of the Lexus, touch button fluidity and the fastest modern racing capacity, then go for the Lexus SC 400 which is perfectly designed to work as both a hardtop coupe and a racing convertible. The 1st generation Lexus SC used a four-speed auto transmission on both the SC 300 and SC 400. This was offered until the year 1998, when the SC 400 Lexus coupe was fit with a five-speed automatic transmission. The SC 300 was fit with a 3.0l inline 6 Toyota JZ engine. New Lexus SC 430 Lexus displayed its new SC 430 at the classy Paris motor show organized in the year 2000. Production for the SC 430 model started in the subsequent year. The Lexus SC 430 is a sports convertible and the latest version of the luxury coupe cars. It has undoubtedly the best structural features akin to any other Lexus SC. The ultimate in customer satisfaction, the SC 430's super styling is awesome and distinct from the more conservative styles of Lexus sedan models. It's powered by 4.3-liter, thirty-two-valve V8. This luxury sports coupe is very smooth in handling due to its tight corners, excellent power and start up with minimal scuttle jitters. There are excellent safety facilities in the SC 430 with dual frontal airbags, more airbags for the front seat passenger, beams on both side doors, and finally energy management safety 'crush' zones in the event of an accident. People with an ear for music will be glad to possess an SC 430 with an excellent audio system, all of nine speakers and 240 watts, six cd auto-changer. There are many other surprising features to a Lexus SC 430 coupe, which you may realize gradually after possessing one. In 2006 the SC 430 qualified for the 'Super GT' racing event in the 500 horsepower category. This 2006 Lexus SC is a modified persona of previous years which was used for competing in the Toyota Supra car races. In competition with other racecars, Open Interface SC along with the champion drivers Juichi Wakisaka and Andre Lotterer, at Suzuka tasted a first time victory on its debutant race. These champions also went ahead to win the GT 500 championship trophy in the same year. In 2007, a Zent SC 430 driven by Yuji emerged victorious in the GT 500 opening event of racing. The Lexus SC has managed to replace the Supra model within Toyota's automobile production. |
