just picked up a 96 es. good car, everything i expected it to be. however, got a rough shifter here. trans is new as of 90 thous. miles....the previous owner says i need to change the engine mounts and trans mounts to smooth out the ride...anybody have experience with this fixing a rough shifter? :confused:

Sorry for the delay in response! I think you should take the car to a Lexus dealership and have them look at it. If you really do need new engine mounts and transmission mounts, it'll definitely make a huge difference in smooth shifting and driving...

When you say you have a "rough shifter"... What exactly do you mean? I'm thinking you're meaning that the transmission jumps/bumps when shifting.. Am I right? If so, than that's probably a mount...

tranny feels good to me, shifts very smooth with overdrive off. However, if I accelerate slowly with overdrive on, she will bang into gear shifting into fourth. it does not do it when accelerating quickly, only when going slow. there is this strut looking like thing near the radiator, about a foot to the left of the canister engine mount...i can wiggle it. the previous owner says that it needs to be replaced. . . I trust him, just looking for anybody with experience and a little reassurance before I buy 2-300 dollars worth of mounts.
