Take it to Autozone they have a check engine tester they will do for free as long as the light is on. They will get a code and tell you the problem good luck.

could just be a censor...you can take your car to a car parts store like advanced auto parts or something and they will do a free test on your car tell you what it is and let you know what parts you need...for FREE! Good luck w/ the car.

It's a sensor.

Im not positive about this but i would check your oil Some cars have an oil level monitor that is tied into the check engine light while others have a separate light. it could be that when you go up or down an incline your oil is at a level that it triggers the oil monitor. so i would make sure that you have enough oil and if you do then definitely take it to an auto zone (or similar auto parts place ) for a free readout.

The "check engine" light does sometimes go on and off. Nothing is wrong unless it stays on...like for a day or two. It typically has to do with polution controls. It can on and off when driving over changes in altitude, as the engine adjusts to changing air pressure. The oxygen sensor might be getting clogged (this can usually be cleaned).

However, if something eventually has to be replaced (when the light stays on, and cleaning doesn't work), it WILL be expensive. Until then, there is no damage to your vehicle...just keep driving.
