...a Lexus ES 300? Would I be fine with just an oem timing belt and an after market water pump? I have found many great deals for a complete timing belt +water pump kits as low as $150 on ebay and other places. Dealer prices are double. Do I risk poor performance with these after market parts or possibity the belt snaping? Mechanics please free to give me the inside scoop. Thanks

No worries. We independent mechanics have been doing this for years. I would use a local auto parts store before Ebay though. Make sure you get some kind of warranty.

No, it is not necessary. I have been using after market parts for a long time without any performance problem.
